17 tracks and I've had it with this game

Girls, girls, girls. The average post on here may be about nursing a broken heart, but, it's different here in Oxford. There are too many of them. Too many of a certain type, anyway.

Going out to one of the weekly rock nights here seems to hold a different agenda for all of us. I go there to listen to decent music and see my friends. The girls that I encountered there last night, however, only seemed intent on one thing; making out with as many guys as possible, and then leading them triumphantly from the club. I can honestly say that, while dancing, I was approached by more than 15 girls as the night went on. I am not boasting or exaggerating. The sad truth is that I wanted to dance, but many other girls wanted to do a different type of dance with me, back at their place.

This isn't a tirade against girls who do one night stands; more of a musing. The other guys seemed content with playing battle of the tongues with the girls; why not me? I just don't feel comfortable with it. I've just come out of a long term relationship, and, should I fall for another girl, I would like to at least to talk to her first before kissing her. Call me old fashioned; I prefer to think of myself as one of the last of a dying breed.

Aside from that, it was a good night, with much laughter derived from Paul's attempt to act out certain scenes from Hellsing, by himself. Kasumi and Chrissy quite rightly pointed out the flaws in his dialect, but it made for good fun. I did feel quite bad for dragging Ben along; I don't think he enjoyed the night as much as he tried to make out, but Yoshiko's crazy little dance did seem to cheer him up. Laura joined in, and quite soon we were all dancing. I always feel so close and happy with my friends. I cannot thank them enough for the memories they have given me. So, despite the fact that I was defending myself from vicious girl mating maneuvers at the start of the night, my friends salvaged my poor mood and turned everything round into an enjoyable outing. I hope there will be many more of them to come.

Is this the place?

I always find these opening posts rather susceptible to cliché; attempts at being witty with searching questions of "is this where I type the first entry?" or "Hi. Heh. Um, I guess you're reading this if you're here, so hello..."

Well, I'm going to avoid that, by simply stating who I am, and what I'm doing here. Simple, but you'd be amazed at how many people can't get the hang of it. My name is Tristen Brett, and I am an alcololic. In that, I like laughing out loud too much. Look at my cutting wit.

I study Mathematics and Computer Science at Oxford University, and have just passed my first year. However, as you might have
gathered by the description at the top of this blog, Oriental culture is what really interests me. So much so, that I intend to visit several Eastern countries over Easter. I am a big fan of anime; especially Naruto, Full Metal Panic (フルメタル・パニック), Spirited Away, Yakitate!! Japan (焼きたて!!ジャぱん) and Hellsing (with Walter providing much entertainment).

I intend this blog to be a place for my rather ordinary life, but extraordinary thoughts. I also hope to meet others who share my passion for Eastern culture. But, importantly, I wish you to enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing here.
